Discovery Coast Music Festival

Bella Coola

British Columbia, Canada

Festival Outline

Discovery Coast Music Festival returns for its sixth year with music, dancing, storytelling, informal jam sessions, a range of family activities, regional handmade crafts, food and more. Surrounded by Mother Nature’s majestic beauty, we offer an informed, enticing and diverse lineup of entertainment. With local and international talent there is music and entertainment for all ages.

The site is handicapped accessible. All events are outside, and the Festival will go on rain or shine. But we know that there will be plenty of blue sky and starry nights. No drugs or alcohol or pets are permitted on the site. Tickets are available in advance or can be purchased at the gate.

Brief History

Early in 1998 a group of dedicated volunteers got together with a common interest of music. What started out as a local musical event emerged into a regional music festival for the Bella Coola Valley. The Discovery Coast Music Festival is a registered Non-Profit Organization. The Board is made up of three local Directors, and a core of hard working volunteers. Local artist Abel Hood designed our logo.

Background on the Bella Coola Valley

Bella Coola is located at the head of North Bentinck Arm, roughly 375 km northwest of Vancouver, 225 km southeast of Prince Rupert and 125 km inland from Queen Charlotte Sound. The population is approximately 2,500 people, comprised of the Nuxalk Nation and non-Native people scattered up the sixty-five kilometer length of the valley.  Surrounded by the snow capped Coast Mountains, endless glacier fed streams and rivers, and abundant fish and wildlife, the Bella Coola Valley is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream-come-true.
